Henry asked: What do u if a stricker gets in your way in a corner?
Dear Henry, Thank you for submitting your question to Ask the Goalkeeper. There are a couple things that you can do if a striker is standing in front of you. The first method, is to have one of your defenders mark the player. Before they play the ball in for the corner, have your defender come behind the striker and force him/her forward out of your way. There are a couple issues with this method. First, having your defender in your area adds another player that can get in your way when you come out for the cross. Second, the defender has to make sure he doesn't over do it and end up fouling the striker. Another method, which I prefer, is if you know that the player is going to stand in front of you, start closer to your near post than you normally would. Right before they play the ball in, step back to your normal starting position. This will put the striker out of your way while the ball is played. There are some concerns about this technique as well. First, you need to make sure that you get back in position in time for the cross. Make sure you aren't getting distracted with the player and not worrying about the cross. Second, the player will eventually catch on to what you are doing and will not follow you to the front post. They will stay in the spot where they know you will be for the cross. Usually you can do this a few times before they catch on. If the player is in your way, something that you see a lot of goalkeepers do is keep their arms up before the cross comes in. The idea for this is to make sure your arms don't get hooked by the striker as you go up for the corner. This also indicates that you aren't pushing the player. My best advice is to try each of these methods and see what works best for you. Every goalkeeper is different and has their own style. I hope I was able to answer your question. If you need me to explain anything more in detail or have any other questions please let me know. Thank you, Chase Harrison Ask the Goalkeeper
